Modelling and Evaluation of a Task Farm Chemical Application on MIMD Architectures

چکیده
The suitability of shared and distributed memory MIMD architectures for carrying out efficient Monte Carlo calculations of the atom-diatom quasiclassical reactive rate constants has been investigated. The paper is divided into two parts. In the first part the structuring of the algorithm according to a task farm model on a IBM 3090-600VF shared memory multiprocessor and on a nCUBE 2 multicomputer is discussed and related performance indexes are given. In the second part, a simulation model to predict the behaviour and the performance of task farm applications running on hypercube multicomputers is proposed and validated by comparing predicted performances with those obtained from actual runs.

Evaluation of Two Real Time Image Processing Architectures
This paper presents a study of the impact of MMX technology in image processing and machine vision application, which, because of their hard real time constrains, is an undoubtedly challenging task. A comparison with a traditional scalar code and with another parallel SIMD architecture (IMAP-VISION board) is discussed with emphasize of the particular programming strategies for speed optimizatio...

Current software and hardware limitations prevent Many-Task Computing (MTC) workloads from leveraging hardware accelerators (NVIDIA GPUs, Intel Xeon Phi) boasting Many-Core Computing architectures. Some broad application classes that fit the MTC paradigm are workflows, MapReduce, high-throughput computing, and a subset of high-performance computing. MTC emphasizes using many computing resources...

The Mermaid project focuses on the construction of simulation models for MIMD multicomputers in order to evaluate them and to give estimates of the system’s performance. A multi-layered approach was adopted in which three levels can be distinguished. The application level describes application behaviour in an abstract manner, unrelated to any hardware or architecture specifics. Subsequently, th...

متن کاملTranslating GPU Binaries to Tiered SIMD Architectures with Ocelot
Parallel Thread Execution ISA (PTX) is a virtual instruction set used by NVIDIA GPUs that explicitly expresses hierarchical MIMD and SIMD style parallelism in an application. In such a programming model, the programmer and compiler are left with the not trivial, but not impossible, task of composing applications from parallel algorithms and data structures. Once this has been accomplished, even...
